But Always (4/10)
That beautiful song in the trailer, originally sung by Tanya Chua, now a male rendition by Yang Zhong Wei, caught my attention and I decided to watch But Always.
Unfortunately, this movie wasn't that good. It's one of those sappy love story where the two leads, Nicholas Tse and Gao Yuan Yuan, could never be together for long due to a series of unfortunate events.
And Tse's acting was terrible here. He only has two expressions, smile or frown.
There's potential in first-timer Snow Zou's writing and directing; he knows how to pull at heart strings but yet overdoes the whole thing with cliches that lacked originality.
And to give Tse's character such a powerful grasp of the English language only after one year of study was way too unrealistic and jarring to sit through.
The ending, once again, was from something that was done a few times already became irritating more than moving.
