Editorial: Colossus To Be Recast In Deadpool, What Does This Mean?
With the announcement that Colossus will appear in the X-Men spin-off movie, Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds and Gina Carano; it has gotten everyone asking if Daniel Cudmore, who was in all three X-Men movies that had Colossus in them, will be reprising his role.
Cudmore, however, confirmed to his fans on Twitter that he will not join the cast of Deadpool that also stars T. J. Miller.
This is rather perplexing because Cudmore has served the X-franchise well ever since X2. He was also directed very well in all the action sequences in X-Men: Days Of Future Past by Bryan Singer - who was the one that brought him into the franchise all those years back for X2.
However, this may just have given us a bit of an inkling as to when Deadpool's timeline is set. There can really be only two directions here.
First, Colossus is going to play a huge role in Deadpool and the producers do not think Cudmore is the right fit; maybe it's his acting ability; but that's hard for us to conclude since we never saw if Cudmore can act or not.
Second, the timeline for Deadpool is going to be set in the same period as X-Men: Apocalypse; which tentatively looks like it'll be either late 70's or 80's - as it should be with the cast of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. Therefore, a much younger Colossus will be needed.
This will also then opens up the possibility for both characters to appear in Apocalypse should Bryan Singer choose to use them there.
I'm putting my money on the second direction, but what do you all think?
