A Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe Coming From Sony
Channing Tatum has become busier these days. News broke yesterday that Sony has been planning for a Ghostbusters shared universe, and Tatum is said to be producing and very likely to star in it.
Back in January, it was confirmed that the new Ghostbusters movie will feature an all-female cast. Like the idea or not, it's definitely exciting news especially after so long since the first two original movies came out. The time is ripe to bring this world back on the silver screen.
Now, not only are we getting one movie, it sounds like Sony is looking at what Disney is doing with its Marvel and Star Wars universes and building their Ghostbusters world in that way. Like Star Wars, having spin-off movies while the main movie leads the way; and like Marvel, where in the near future they can combine these characters into one movie. Or at least that's how I am interpreting this news at this point in time.
There has also been reports that the Russo Brothers have been hired by Sony recently. Many speculated that it was going to be for the new Spider-Man solo movie. But we learn now that it's actually for this new Ghostbusters spin-off with Tatum.
No confirmation yet on when its release date will be but if I'm going to take a guess, it'll be the following year after the first movie comes out, meaning summer of 2017? The original creators, Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, will be the main producers in this new universe.
