Matt Damon And Andy Lau In Zhang Yi Mou's The Great Wall

We just saw John Cusack and Adrien Brody in the (horrible) Chinese movie Dragon Blade, where American stars join forces with Chinese (and other Oriental) cast in a Chinese movie.

Now, as if starting a trend, Matt Damon, Willem Dafoe and "Game Of Thrones" star Pedro Pascal is joining Chinese superstars Andy Lau and Eddie Peng to be featured in Zhang Yi Mou's latest offering, The Great Wall.

This also isn't the first time Zhang is working with a Hollywood A-lister. In 2011, he got Christian Bale to star in The Flowers Of War, but that didn't make any impact outside of China. So this will be another attempt for China in pursuing that elusive "crossover" success from China to the rest of the world.

Set in the 15th century, the story centres around an epic war happening at The Great Wall of China; and the movie is supposedly "the largest film ever to shoot entirely in China for a global distribution". So yes, expect it to be epic.

I'm excited for anything Zhang is directing. His style and storytelling is one that's unique and beautiful, both aesthetically and figuratively. And this for sure will be immensely better than Dragon Blade because of who's involved: With a fantastic director in Zhang and seasoned and great actors like Damon and Lau, I'm expecting crazy fireworks!
