First Star Wars Spin-Off Movie Gets A Title
Disney's Chariman and CEO Bob Iger has just announced today that the first Star Wars spin-off movie, which will be released in 16 December 2016, is titled, Rogue One.
Rogue One will start shooting in a few months time, but as of now the only confirmed actor attached is Felicity Jones.
Many speculated that this movie will be about a group of bounty hunters, possibly Mandalorians, possibly to feature the character Sabine from the "Star Wars Rebels" series in which Jones will be playing; in a heist storyline to steal the plans for the first Death Star.
However, now that we know the title is to be Rogue One, and if you're a fan of Star Wars you would naturally associate the word "Rogue" with the Rogue Squadron - a fleet of X-Wing fighter pilots.
So the question now is, will Rogue One still be a heist movie with bounty hunters, or will it be something else entirely with the Rogue Squadron, possibly featuring the character Wedge Antilles? This title has brought on more questions than answers at the Sabaac table!
Gareth Edwards is directing with a first-draft script written by Gary Whitta and now Academy Award nominated writer Chris Weitz has taken over screenplay duties.
Also confirmed by Iger is that Rian Johnson is set to write and direct Star Wars Episode VIII - a news that we've known for quite some time now but with no word about it since. So now, it's more like an affirmation than anything else.
