Bad Words (7/10)

Jason Bateman's first full-length directorial debut, and it's a dramedy. Right up his alley.

Though it wasn't brilliant, but it had a great story by Andrew Dodge, and it had heart. Bateman's direction was very competent and very funny too.

The chemistry between the cast, between Bateman and Kathryn Hahn, and between Bateman and Rohan Chand; they worked very well onscreen. Bateman and Hahn are just pros when it comes to comedy and the overall casting was very apt.

Throw in an Allison Janney for good measure and you are never short for humorous moments.

I thought for a movie with the subject matter, the short running time was very favourable. And the ending, though predictable that Bateman's character would redeem himself in the eyes of the audience, it was still directed very smoothly as the event unfolded.

Good effort by Bateman, and we can already expect a couple more from him very soon.
