Child 44 (6.5/10)

Tom Hardy has become quite the force to be reckon with onscreen. With each movie, he's bringing something new and fresh to the table. And he's such a joy to watch. The only thing is that when he's shot from the back, his shoulders kept reminding me of Bane from The Dark Knight Rises - not that it's a real negative.

With a strong cast that's made up of great character actors like Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Noomi Rapace... , there was no shortage great performances in the movie.

Directed by ... who also gave us ..., the build up was slow but very much needed to be so. There was no other way to have the story progress faster with a tone like this one. Also, if it needed to follow faithfully to the source material, which was a novel written by ..., perhaps this was the best pace for the movie.

Unfortunately, the pacing was too slow at certain areas that I had trouble keeping my attention on the screen. So much so that some plot points went over my head, like why Vincent Cassel and Joel Kinnaman's character were so adamant on hunting down the heroes and also why they had so much trouble locating them.

But at the end of it, the story was good enough to have some talking points for discussions, which is what I enjoy. Though somewhat slow in the middle, it was made up by a great cast of performers.
