Even though this was not a strong movie, nor was it as strong of a performance delivered by Adam Sandler; however, this is the type of roles he should be focusing on. And it's been a long time coming. I can't sit through anymore of his Grown Ups types of shenanigans.
Going in, I did not know what the story was about so I was caught by surprise when I realised that this was some kind of a fantasy drama. There were some directional changes here and there but mostly not big enough to call them proper twists.
And I didn't feel that Sandler provided enough of a character progression or relatable emotions for the audience to back him up. I wanted more range from Sandler but it was not to be in this movie. And the fact that his character was just a more toned down one from his Punch-Drunk Love performance didn't help to impress.
Ellen Barkin, Dustin Hoffman and Steve Buscemi were just adequate in their roles.
