The first trailer for Jem And The Holograms has arrived, and boy, is this franchise in trouble.
I'll admit that I'm not the target audience for this movie and that I can remember only watching a few episodes of the 80's cartoon series so my memory of it is quite fuzzy.
But this trailer showed us nothing about the origin of the characters from the original Jem And The Holograms concept. For one, where's that fancy earring that creates the hologram around Jem? Isn't that the reason why it's called "Jem And The Holograms"? Where are all the modern technology that was left behind by Jem's father?
To me, this story is like any other generic small-town talented girl given an opportunity of a lifetime, then fame and fortune (or the likes of it) make her lose her path and identity, and in the end her friends reminded her of who she is. There's no "Jem And The Hologram". What's going on?
And John M. Chu brushed aside "He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe" to do this crap? He really knows how to prioritise.
