San Adreas (7.5/10)

Technology for movies have improved so much that the destruction of a city in this movie looked better than ever.

The movie opened up with a rescue sequence that introduced Dwayne Johnson's character well, although somewhat of a cliche. But then again, this whole movie was a cliche. Johnson's character was also a Hollywood disasater movie cliche.

Still, with each destruction, it never failed to impress or make the audience feel the danger. That was supported by the capable acting chops of Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddario. Even Paul Gimatti's expositions and exaggerated theories sounded believable with Gimatti's strong acting.

I didn't quite care for Ioan Gruffudd's character though. I wished the writing team would have given him a better character angle than the typical one.

And way to go for Hollywood to kill off the one and only Asian (Will Yun Lee) in the movie, yet again. And why get Kylie Minogue for just one scene? And why were all the male actors that had any significant role in this movie came with a well-built body?

But all these negative observations were dwarfed by the earthquake itself. And wherever it counted, that's where it mattered. And the drive for the family to be together again was quite commendable as Daddario's character never strayed from her intention. There were some really nice sequences that's not just in the trailers. And Johnson as an action hero really looked the part.

Overall, it's an impressive piece of movie that was entertaining enough to be very satisfied with.
