Stephen King's IT Loses Director
IT was supposed to start filming in three weeks, but now it is being reported that the director, Cary Fukunaga, the passion behind the project, has left.
Reports are saying that this is due to creative differences on the budget for the project. Fukunaga wants to make it a two-parter - like the 1990 TV mini-series, but New Line Cinema are hesitant to grant him that wish.
For me, the appeal of this remake was Fukunaga because of what he did with "True Detective". If you've seen the series, imagine what it could be like for IT in that tone and direction.
But now, what does it mean for the franchise? Will New Line Cinema continue ahead with the project? If they do, I'm afraid anyone who steps in will just make it like any other generic horror movie. And that's not what I want. I was already sold on Fukunaga's version and now I'm not sure I want to see anyone else doing it, apart from maybe a few directors in my mind like James Wan, M. Night Shyamalan or maybe Scott Derrickson.
Or take IT away from New Line and let Fukunaga come back!
