The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Gets A Reboot
Remember the last big screen adaptation of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen back in 2003 with a cast led by Sean Connery? If you're like me, then you would be remembering it because it was so bad. It's so bad that it killed off Connery's career - that was the last movie he's ever made.
Now, 20th Century Fox is hoping that with comic book movies are at the height of their popularity and success, maybe a reboot will bring this franchise back to life.
Originally created by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill, about a group of Victorian literature characters banding together to save the world - like Allan Quatermaine from "King Solomon's Mines", Captain Nemo from "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea", the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Mina Harker from "Dracula".
The mission that forced the British government to recruit the unlikely group was to prevent an escalating war started by Fu Man Chu and Professor Moriarty.
The last movie also had Tom Sawyer and Dorian Gray, both very interesting characters to include. But that movie brought nothing of the lore of these classical characters, it was as if they just created some characters and gave them these famous names.
I would love to see this done right. It could be like Guardians Of The Galaxy, but on Earth.
No word yet on when the project will begin production though.
