James Wan To Direct Aquaman

Warner Bros. Pictures has just announced that the official word is, James Wan is the director for Aquaman.

Wan has had prior experiences with Warner Bros., having developed The Conjuring with New Line Cinema. There have been earlier reports that one of the deals Warner Bros. made with Wan was for him to come back to do The Conjuring 2 and then he would be able to do a big tentpole DC movie - this was after Wan had announced his "retirement" from the horror genre.

And after seeing what he did with Furious 7, he is a director that has more to offer than just horror and suspense.

So now that deal is coming true and I'm excited for this news. It may not be a lot of people's first choice for this pairing - there will probably be a lot of underwater storytelling so Wan will have to reach deeper to pull out something extraordinary, something he's never done before. And this movie, if done right, is going to propel him even further.

Now the question is whether this will be an origin story to Aquaman or will it be a continuation from the Justice League movie. Because if it isn't both, it will be weird for Aquaman to venture off to do something else in between the two Justice League movies that strangely enough are not happening back-to-back.

Just to put things into a clearer perspective:

10 November 2017 Justice League: Part One
27 July 2018           Aquaman
14 June 2019           Justice League: Part Two

The tentative date for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist is 10 June 2016, which should be what Wan will be working on very soon. And after that, he should be hard at work on pre-production for Aquaman by second half of next year.
