Quentin Tarantino's upcoming western film has just gotten a release date from The Weinstein Company. It will first be released in selected theatres on Christmas day in the US (in 70mm prints) before getting an official release on 8 January 2016.
This strategy is believed to be banking on the fact that January usually is the dead zone and so potential to dominate during that period will be much higher. Also, by releasing at the end of December will still qualify the movie for the Oscar award considerations. This was what American Sniper did last year, which has proven to be a successful record.
The Hateful Eight stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth, Walton Goggins and Zoe Bell.
