Mel Gibson As Art Director For Chinese Movie, The Bombing

Mel Gibson has joined an upcoming Chinese war movie, Bombing, as their art director.

Whether its pure interest to the events during that period of time or his unsuccessful attempts to make a come-back in Hollywood; but in the press release during the production of the movie, it was revealed that Gibson was invited to join the production of the movie by producer Dr. Shi Jian Xiang. And Bruce Willis has also joined the cast as one of the international stars.

Dr. Shi is one of China's leading producers and directors who have focused his efforts on creating cross-cultural movies to demonstrate Chinese culture and its characteristics to the world, including Ip Man 3.

He also said that his responsibility to the movie also included getting the best resources from an international level to enhance the movie's production value. Other Oscar winners who have joined the production include Vilmos Zsigmond from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, and Ronald Bass of Rain Man fame.

The Bombing is set during the World War II period and is based on the bombing of Chongqing by Japanese air force. It will tell a story of the hardship the people of Chongqing had to endure. The Bombing of Chongqing is one of the World War II major air raids that has never been told on the silver screen.

Of the production team, Gibson said, "The Bombing has an excellent world-class team with outstanding producers, directors, cast and crew. Our crew is marvelous, modest but enthusiastic."

Gibson is a renown director, having won an Oscar for his direction in Braveheart. I'm sure he will be able to add value to The Bombing. Though how much, that we'll never know. Gibson hasn't had much luck in the last five years since his return to work.

But I do wonder, if Dr. Shi wanted to use Gibson's fame to market the movie, he may have found the wrong name to do so.
