Disney Making Live-Action Aladdin Prequel, Genies

There's no doubt that Disney is cashing in on all their classic and winning properties. The next one to get a live-action treatment is a prequel - and a first of its kind if you don't count Maleficent which just took too many wrong turns.

Aladdin is one of my favourites from Disney, partly because of the songs, partly because of the story, and partly of course, that big blue Genie voiced by Robin Williams.

The prequel to Aladdin will focus on the Genie, and perhaps we'll see how that Genie came about or how he gets locked up in the lamp.

However, as the title suggests in the report released by The Hollywood Reporter, it's going to be a story set in the realm of Genies.

It's too early to tell if I should be getting excited about this, especially when the writers for the movie are Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who only has Friday The Thirteenth and Freddy vs. Jason under their belts. Unless they are just going through a first draft.

No word yet on a release date but I'm guessing 2018.
