Donnie Yen's Rogue One Character Blind?
It was Disney's D23 that released the now famous Rogue One cast photo about 10 days ago.
I didn't pay too much attention to the detail until I kind of accidentally clicked on the picture and it blew up to a larger size with great clarity - feel free to click it below.
And that's when I saw, Donnie Yen's character did not have any pupils in his eyes - or so it seemed.
Upon doing a few searches, other websites have also reported that Yen's character could be blind, with one associating him to a Star Wars species called Miraluka (a species I built my main character with in the online game Star Wars: The Old Republic).
It would be very cool but I doubt this is the case since Miraluka usually are very Force-sensitive. And that staff that Yen's character is holding in this picture certainly doesn't look like a lightsaber. Plus, director Gareth Edwards already hinted that Rogue One will not have any lightsaber-wielding characters. Still, nothing is confirmed at this point.
The more likely scenario, however, is that he's not a Jedi. And that he's probably related in some ways - probably shares the same background - as Jiang Wen's character who is standing behind him in this photo.
A pity too because we won't be seeing the Asian Jedi for the first time with Yen or Jiang. But I'm sure, even if his character is blind, he's going to be kicking some butts in the movie.
