Fun fact. The 5th Wave is what me and my basketball buddies used to call our team in highschool. So seeing this title with one of my favourite rising stars, Chloe Grace Moretz, is giving me a biased affinity to it.
Unfortunately, I can't say I'm impressed. In fact, some parts like the monologue feels very cheesy. The only intriguing part is why are these aliens using five waves of assault to take-over Earth.
But it's certainly one of a kind of alien invasion that I've never seen before, as it's more like a cross between a zombie take-over and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
Adapted by Susannah Grant from a novel by Rick Yancey, my only fear for the movie is this unknown director, J Blakeson, who may be the movie's downfall.
What I'm hoping for is an intense and mysterious storytelling that has that third-act twist to blow our minds. Hopefully the second trailer will be delivered better and give a clearer picture of the plot.
Also starring Liev Schreiber, Maika Monroe and Maria Bello, The 5th Wave will be out on 15 January 2016 - not a very promising release month, I must say.
