Entourage - Review (5.5/10)
Having been a fan of the TV series that had 8 seasons on the air, perhaps 4 seasons too long, I was very much interested, though not eager, to see a silver screen adaptation and to continue in that world of Vinny Chase, played by Adrian Grenier.
But I was very eager to see Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven, shouting at people around him once again. This was one of TV's best and most fun characters.
But did the movie succeed? Well, it felt like watching one whole season of the TV show all in one sitting. It wasn't entirely a bad thing, but also it didn't have any kind of novelty when seeing these characters on the silver screen.
The story itself was okay. It was fun to see the many cameos by famous people, though I'm surprised Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele didn't make an appearance, especially seeing as Key is everywhere these days.
And the one time TV beauty and every fanboy's dreamgirl, Emmanuelle Chriqui, seemed to have lost part of her charm on the big screen. Her character wasn't that interesting, which also contributed to the lackluster of the movie as a whole; because her TV character and her relationship with Kevin Connolly was one to follow.
But where others like Jerry Ferrara's infatuation with the talent-flat Ronda Rousey felt forced and boring, Kevin Dillon and Rex Lee were there to pick up the slack as they injected much needed humour all throughout.
The ending though, was horribly anticlimactic. Everything from the beginning were building up to something that couldn't even live up to a mediocre standard. And the most ironic part, while we see these characters become the stars and success that they have always sought after since season one back in 2004, the actors themselves will never come close to their alter egos.
