Sicario - Review (8.5/10)
It's crazy how the movie Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, had such an impact on my subconscious because halfway through Sicariom, I was wondering who the director for it was as I had forgotten. And from the style of direction, I told myself it felt like Denis Villeneuve.
Once the credit rolled, it was in fact Villeneuve! I really enjoy his direction and Sicario once again was such an enjoyment.
The intensity of the movie, even when in the middle it turned into a bit of a slow burn, was very palpable throughout and there never was a dull moment. From beginning to end, the movie grabbed my attention and had my eyes glued to the screen until the very last frame.
The three main actors, Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benecio Del Toro, were masterclass. Blunt was another tough character but with more of a human vulnerability this time. Brolin kept you guessing until the end and Del Toro, well, let's just say I've never seen him this good in a long, long time.
At the end of the day, it's Villeneuve's direction that should be credited. The way he tells stories and the way he builds tension and suspense is just such a treat to witness.
I'm shocked this movie has opened in limited number of cinemas in Brunei. Not many people know about it and it has not received any marketing at all here, which is a shame.
