The new sequel to Alvin And The Chipmunks, subtitled The Road Chip, has shifted its release date earlier by one week up to 18 December 2015. This will see the Chipmunks take on Star Wars: The Force Awakens head on.
Whether it's a wise move by 20th Century Fox remains to be seen, but they have taken this very opportunity to release a new poster to coincide with this announcement, just to ride on the hype of Star Wars.
While most of the movie-goers will surely opt for Star Wars, so in terms of box office weekend, I believe this is not a good move for them. However, bearing in mind that the family segment is a strong one in the US, and after the parents themselves have watched Star Wars, they may consider taking their kids out for some lighthearted and more kids-friendly, CGI'd furry friends. But that won't be so only until the following weekend. We'll just have to wait and see how it does on that opening weekend.
