The Voices - Review (6/10)

Here's a movie that's quite offbeat, a mix between horror and comedy. But because of how it's come together, it was quite hard to market it.

Director Marjane Satrapi, who is most well-known for her first movie, Persepolis (which was nominated for Best Animation); has a way of storytelling that may be an acquired taste. But she managed to get one of the better performances out of Ryan Reynolds, who was the main subject of the story.

Gemma Arteton and Anna Kendrick were added bonuses, though Arteton sometimes came off as a bit unnatural. Especially when she had to act only with her head.

But the horror side of things I really enjoyed. Especially when the audience got to see a sober Reynolds and a high Reynolds, and how his world can be so very different, and scary.

The writing was bit weak in places and had to force some exposition bits in order for the story to move along.

Overall, I enjoyed the horror aspect of things, as well as Reynolds solid performance. But the movie, like that end credit song, was very weird and strange and not easy to root for.
