It should come as no surprise after the immense success and critical acclaimed Mission: Impssible - Rogue Nation that the next sequel, the sixth movie, is in the works.
It also should come as no surprise that Tom Cruise will be back to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt and he wants Christopher McQuarrie to come back to direct.
What is surprising is that McQuarrie, if he accepts this mission, will be the first director to direct a second Mission: Impossible movie, not to mention it's back-to-back. The franchise has never had a same director coming back for seconds.
According to Variety, McQuarrie is confirmed to write the screenplay, and Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have offered him the director's gig as well.
Filming could begin as early as summer of 2016 for a 2017 release.
