After Rupert Wyatt exited the project, the X-Men spin-off movie could not move forward and we're now less than a year away from the opening date of 7 October 2016.
But The Hollywood Reporter today confirmed that 20th Century Fox have found a director to come onboard. Doug Liman, who recently had much success critically with Tom Cruise's Edge Of Tomorrow, is about to sign on the dotted line; pending final negotiations.
Liman will not have any problems with big budget action sequences, that's for sure. The only thing I'm slightly nervous about is how much focus is Liman able to give Channing Tatum's Gambit the needed character development and not let the need for big action sequences get in the way of storytelling.
Nevertheless, I believe Liman will be able to direct a competent X-Movie which hopefully can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Bryan Singer's X-Men franchise.
