Ridley Scott's Alien Gets New Title And Release Date

Ridley Scott just can't make up his mind when it comes to naming his next Alien movie.

It was sub-titled as Paradise Lost less than two months ago, but in an interview with IndieWire last weekend, Scott let it slip that the title is now Alien: Covenant.

Today, according to ComingSoon, 20th Century Fox has confirmed the new title and also a confirmed release date, 6 October 2017; which differs from what may have been an unconfirmed previous date of 30 May 2017.

A synopsis was also released by Fox, which reads, Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in Alien with Alien: Covenant, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus - and connects directly to Scott's 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Sounds a lot like the plot for both Alien and Aliens. I didn't like Prometheus so I'm not that thrilled yet about this news. I'm still more interested in the possibly now-defunct Neill Blomkamp's version of a sequel.

Filming for Alien: Covenant will begin production come February 2016, and Fassbender and Noomi Rapace will reprise their roles in this sequel to Prometheus.
