Power Rangers And Divergent's Ascendant Delayed

Lionsgate has shifted two of its upcoming blockbuster movies for the first half of 2017.

The Divergent Series: Ascendant has been delayed from 24 March 2017 to 9 June 2017, right into the heart of the summer where it will square off with World War Z 2.

Taking the now empty spot of 24 March will be the reboot of Power Rangers where originally it was supposed to be out on 13 January 2017. It will now contend with Universal's reboot of The Mummy.

I like the shift for Power Rangers, taking advantage of making that weekend a reboot fest at the cinema - using nostalgia as a selling point. This could work very well for both movies.

However, the shift for Ascendant isn't such a great one considering how badly the last one did. It doesn't feel like it deserves a summer spot. But World War Z 2 also barely escaped a no-sequel situation, this could mean a better chance for Ascendant to steal some ticket sales as well.
