I am so surprised... at just how bad this trailer is.
That song playing in the background is so distracting and just doesn't represent what Star Trek is. Even I can tell that and I'm not even a Star Trek fan. I only started watching when J.J. Abrams directed them and made me a new fan. Didn't we get something similar already in Guardians Of The Galaxy?
This to me was like a rip off, when it should be setting its own standards for others to follow. The jokes also fall very flat in this trailer. It's action sequences are just bombastic and don't feel Star Trek-y. I'm beginning to thik if Fast And Furious went to space, this would be the trailer.
Justin Lin may have just changed the tone set by Abrams. Unlike two other big franchise trailers that just came out, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and Independence Day: Resurgence, those had the same tone in the trailer as their predecessor. This new Star Trek feels completely different.
One thing I'll say, Sofia Boutella's character looks great.
The movie may turn out just as good when it is out on 22 July 2016, but this trailer did not make me feel excited for the movie at all.
