The Peanuts Movie - Review (7.5/10)

I was very sceptical going into this movie. Even after the set of trailers that came out, they didn't convince me enough that this wouldn't be a feeble attempt at banking on nostalgia.

But five minutes into the movie and I knew everything would be alright. First, it's the animation and the art of it. What the animators managed to achieve with this movie, to have that 2D classic feel in a modern 3D world was simply beautiful and breathtaking. The balance between the classic and the modern was just perfect.

The director Steve Martino did a great job at pulling at our heartstrings. By "our" I do mean us young-at-hearts who grew up with the comic strips. At the same time, the newer generation were still able to appreciate the movie and its story.

The only thing that kind of slowed things down for me were the multiple Red Baron scenes with Snoopy in his imaginary world. Sure, it was a big part of the comics but I thought the movie had one or two too many; making the movie felt longer than it really was - which never is a good sign.

The movie definitely had the nostalgia factor working for it. The characters, the kite, the baseball and the football. Everything was done with intent and quality that nothing felt out of place. Even that weird, muffled voice of the teacher was charming.

I do hope for a sequel to this and let's see where Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang will adventure to next.
