World War Z Sequel Loses Director Juan Antonio Bayona
The sequel to World War Z continues with production problem from its first movie.
Having to redraft and reshoot almost the entire third act of the original movie, the end product actually was better for it. But now the sequel seems to still run into bad luck as it has just lost its director, Juan Antonio Bayona, according to a report by Deadline yesterday.
Bayona has stepped off of the Plan B Entertainment and Paramount Pictures project, citing a conflict in timing. The studios would like to stick to the 9 June 2017 release date but Bayona is still busy with another movie that he has just shot, A Monster Calls, and won't be available to start filming until later.
Now Brad Pitt and Plan B will have to scramble to find a replacement for Bayona and time is not on their side. So we should be able to expect a new name getting attached soon as, being a sequel, it should not lose the 2017 window or it will pass the 4-year gap mark - which Hollywood deems as the maximum gap for a sequel's window or it will be a situation where it's out of sight and out of mind and will affect profits.
