Deadpool - Review 8.5/10

I need to watch Deadpool again! But I can't, not unless I travel. If I do, I'll definitely do it.

You won't want to miss the opening credits. It's hilarious, and immediately sets the tone for the movie. This is the best opening credits in cinema history!

Ryan Reynolds is born to play Deadpool. Even before watching the movie, through all the brilliant and ingenious marketing materials and strategies, I've already said Reynolds will be the next actor that cannot be separated from his character, after Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

There were so many one-liners in here that will keep you laughing from beginning to end (if you are already a Deadpool fan, that is; because I really don't think casual movie-goers will get half of the jokes he's dishing out).

The only worry I had going in was that, being an origin movie, the "origin" part may be too slow and boring. Because the character of Deadpool is just so entertaining and fun, when we're at the "Wade Wilson" storyline things may just move too slowly. Unfortunately I was right. Especially when there's nothing to laugh about, I thought the pace slowed down a little bit. What can I say, I just wanted Deadpool to make me laugh the whole time.

Also, Ajax as the main antagonist wasn't all that interesting. He's not the "big bad" I had hoped for, but thins being the first movie it's understandably so. Meaning, the sequel, which has already been announced, has the potentially to be bigger and better.

I liked all the characters introduced here. Great choice to bring in secondary X-Men characters like Colossus; or even someone less significant like Negasonic Teenage Warhead, so they wouldn't take focus away from Deadpool. Even the taxi driver Dopinder was such a great character for Deadpool to riff off of.

I wished there was more of T.J. Miller's Weasel because he was so good. But at the end of it all, make no mistake, this is a love story. And it was a great one. I bought into the whole thing, hook, line and sinker. Reynolds and Morena Baccarin have great onscreen chemistry.

Like I said, I need to watch this again. I'm sure there were a lot of one-liners that I missed while I was still laughing at the previous one-liner. Also, do keep an eye out for a couple of cameos.

I really have to salute Reynolds, Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, for sticking to their guns and never succumb to studio pressure, fighting the good fight to bring us the most authentic superhero movie to date!
