The first trailer for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions' third installment of The Purge series has been released.
Subtitled Election Year, the movie continues with Frank Grillo's character. Now the head of security for a senator, played by Elizabeth Mitchell from TV's "Lost" fame; and if she gets elected as president, she plans to abolish this horrible annual ritual.
Once again, this trailer showed way too much. I feel like I just saw the beginnings of all three acts from the movie, and we get them chronologically too. So it looks like the third act will see the senator captured and Grillo will have to go save her. I do not need to know this from any of its marketing materials.
I will see this movie because, as mentioned in my review of The Purge: Anarchy, I really enjoyed Grillo and he made that movie watchable. However, my one reservation is that the movie is still written and directed by the same guy, James DeMonaco. Hopefully the upward trajectory continues for this third one.
The movie will be out on 1 July 2016.
