Pride And Prejudice And Zombies - Review (5/10)

Step into the world of Jane Austen but with zombies, and you'll find that adventure interesting and entertaining, but never quite live up to its true potential.

And that could be because of budget or choice of director in Burr Steers.

The fight choreography were simple at best. The gruesome head explosions were gimmicky. And the executions and death scenes were inconsistently presented.

The cast were mostly adequate. Lily James, such a bright spot in her previous leading role, Cinderella, did not sparkle. Bella Heathcote, Sam Riley, Douglas Booth and Jack Huston were present but nothing noteworthy.

Instead, the most entertaining character and acting came from Matt Smith, who seemed to be channeling Barney Stinson most of the time. He provided most of the subtle laughs and made the movie more enjoyable than it was.

The biggest flaw here was the way the final fight sequences ended. It was poorly directed and written, though I wouldn't know how much better the original material was.

One thing that was consistent was the pacing, and Steers managed to steer clear of anything else that may easily have fallen into cheesy territory while keeping the same, overarching tone throughout.

I doubt we'll be getting a sequel or anymore of these crossover-themed movies anytime soon.
