Review: Mr. Right (6.5/10)
Here's one of the many Max Landis' scripts to have come out recently. It's not the best but I still enjoyed it, so that's saying something.
Director Paco Cabezas could have had more help when it came to creating some of the action sequences as those were the lowest points about the movie, granted it really wasn't an action flick.
But Cabezas has a great cast to work with. Sam Rockwell, Anna Kendrick (or as I'd like to think of her as, Anna Kendrick-Goh) and Tim Roth are all solid actors, but I just didn't think there were a lot of specific directions given.
Especially for Kendrick, I thought for the most part she was just acting as herself: funny, adorable and a little crazy in the best sense.
I also didn't like how her character evolved in the third act just all of a sudden. It was too quick a transition and wasn't as convincing as it should have been. Roth's character also should have been fleshed out a lot more.
But the story itself as mentioned was a nice one for something small and contained. Sam Rockwell's character was written well. The humour worked the best and was really brought out by the chemistry between Rockwell and Kendrick.
Cabezas paced the movie just right, and the light moments outweighed the negatives. So, not a bad watch and suitable for a date night too.
