Review - Moon (7.5/10)
Just before Warcraft comes out, I thought I would check what else the director Duncan Jones has done. And Moon is one of his best to date.
This was a very small movie, self-contained but fantastic storytelling of the sci-fi genre. The movie only stars Sam Rockwell for 90% of the time, but his performance - and I would have to say, performances - were fantastic.
And this is what's so great about Rockwell. He lives for these smaller budget movies that interest him rather than pay well. This movie wouldn't have been this great without him.
A lot of the set pieces, you can tell, were miniature sized shot to look like a whole planet of the moon. It's beautifully rendered and "actionized", though it did take me out of the movie because it was so unrealistic.
But from this movie you can tell Jones' sensibilities when it comes to his style of storytelling. Though some parts could have been a tad faster but it's difficult for me to call out how or where to make improvements because stylistically it's so specific.
And lastly, I want to point out that score and another piece of music playing in the background really elevated the scenes and amplified the tension even more. It's a great blend of music and moving pictures.
