Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim sequel is finally getting some strides in its movement with Legendary Pictures signing on Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega.
Pacific Rim 2 is aiming to start filming before end of the year with Steven S. DeKnight taking over the director's chair. According to ComingSoon.net, Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba's character from the first movie.
I think this movie is a perfect fit for Boyega as his next big project as I can already see him in this universe and jumping into a Jaeger. It's about time too because so far there has been a lot of casting news for Daisy Ridley - a very well deserved new-found fame - but Boyega should be right up there with her as the pair really stood out in The Force Awakens.
No date has been confirmed for the movie but I'm guessing it will be early 2018, unless the studio takes it back to a summer schedule.
