[Review] Central Intelligence (5/10)

Why is this movie called Central Intelligence? It's not really about the CIA, and the characters here weren't intelligent at all.

Dwayne Johnson's portrayal of his character was one of the weaker ones to date. His comedic timing and acting chops in this kind of role is still lacking, unfortunately. His charms, however, made up for a lot of that shortcomings though.

Kevin Hart's shtick got tiresome in the second half of the movie. I think I prefer him as the crazier one, not the calmer of the two.

Director Rawson Marshall Thurber was also not the right choice for this movie. His action sequences were horrible and lacked continuity. The flow from scene to scene sometimes didn't make common sense.

And there were a lot of editing and stitching of scenes together, either Thurber had trouble getting Johnson to do the right takes - Johnson looked like he's acting a lot here, or he didn't get enough of the right footage while shooting.

The cameos in this movie were the most fun part. I loved Jason Bateman's appearance and he was a clear highlight. His role also reminded me of The Gift.

The beginning had a lot of fun and funny moments, and the scene in the psychiatrist office was hilarious. But after a while the movie felt like it was dragging its feet, and I didn't understand why they had to bring the story to Boston. That's when I wished the movie would have ended already.

I thought Hart did a lot of carrying of the movie from start to finish as Johnson's offbeat character came off as hard to believe as a CIA agent.
