Producers of Sicario have always planned to have more than just one movie, and now the plans for the sequel is moving ahead.
Titled Soldado, it will follow the continuation of Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin's characters in a new story that will once again be written by Sicario's Taylor Sheridan.
However, Denis Villeneuve will not be returning to direct. Instead, as reported by Deadline, Lionsgate and Black Label Media have hired Italian helmer Stefano Sollima, whom I'm not familiar with, to take over the reins.
Losing Villeneuve is a big issue for me but I just don't see him as a director that does sequel. At least it will still be written by the same writer.
No official release date has been set as of now.
