Charlie Hunnam Out Of Pacific Rim 2
In a recent interview with MTV, lead actor of the original Pacific Rim, Charlie Hunnam, has confirmed that he will not be reprising his role for the sequel.
Hunnam did confirm that there was a version of the script that involved his character very heavily in the movie, "but there was a changing of ownership, of the studio itself, Legendary, and I think that because they partnered up with a Chinese company (Wanda Group) - and the film was so successful there, there was a real agenda to get that film into production as soon as possible. And I was already booked up for a significant period of the time they were going to need".
Hunnam went on to add, "Sometimes non-creative decisions will dictate how something unfolds, which seems backwards in the fact that we're making art, or at least aspiring to make art."
Original director and creator of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro, will also not be back on directing duties. Instead, it will be in the hands of Steven S. DeKnight as his directorial debut.
Whether this will turn out to be a wise decision or not, only time will tell as the political landscape once again commands the direction of an artistic endeavour.
One thing the sequel has going for it is up-and-coming star John Boyega is now the leading man of Pacific Rim 2, currently subtitled Maelstrom.
