[Review] The Boss (6/10)
The Boss was probably a movie that I wouldn't have rushed to the cinemas for (it didn't come to Brunei) but that's why if it's decent, it would presented itself as good entertainment. And that's all I am asking for with this movie.
The first five minutes of the movie gave a good introduction to who Melissa McCarthy would be playing this time around. And she's taken the disillusionment and entitlement to a level that I have never seen before in any of her characters. That, probably, was the main difference in characteristics. That, and her turtlenecks.
While others have grown tired of her usual shtick, I still found her very entertaining in this movie. This was the first time I've seen a Ben Falcone-directed movie (I have not seen Tammy yet but may now consider visiting it), and I thought Falcone really gets his wife and knows how to direct her well in a comedy.
Some of the best parts came from the words that's spoken by her character to children in this movie, but above all else, her chemistry with Kristen Bell and Peter Dinklage worked superbly. And Dinklage was another highlight, stealing scenes whenever he was onscreen (but then again it wasn't too much of a feat with such a small movie and for someone his talent).
In the end, it's expected what we're getting out of this movie and it delivered what it promised. It's certainly no Spy, but I enjoyed my time with it.
