[Review] The Shallows (5/10)

The Shallows is a very small scaled movie that relied heavily on the performances of its one lead, Blake Lively, and the direction given to her by Jaume Collet-Serra.

If you are a water sport person, you will definitely appreciate the beginning of this movie where it showed you one version of a paradise. The clear blue water in a secluded part of Mexico that was still untouched and a well-kept secret.

But after that I felt the movie dragged on in many parts because it was trying to hit the 1-hour-30-minute mark - otherwise it would have been too short a movie.

So there were a lot of filler scenes that if removed, would have made this movie move faster and be more interesting.

There were some cool shots of the shark. The first time it appeared inside the wave was brilliant. However, the CGI quality wasn't up to a higher standard and you can really tell that it was very unrealistic.

The fear factor and the suspense was good enough to scare the audience but the payoff just wasn't rewarding.

Lively did enough for this role and this may even be a nice credit on her belt, but the whole movie just wasn't entertaining enough for it to be good.
