[Review] Sausage Party (8/10)
From the opening song, you could tell what kind of a movie you're in for. But not even that could prepare you for the last five minutes of the movie. I'll leave it at that.
We've seen the Saving Private Ryan nod in the trailers, and it played out even better in the actual movie in the first 10 minutes. I thought the directors, Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, were able to create a reality where all these food product are living beings very successfully. And maybe the amount of cussing, which this movie must be holding a record for most profane, actually helped bring realism to the characters.
The different sections between the three acts, such as the horror slaughtering in the kitchen, or the character building through interactions, the Mexican bar, or the action sequences in the end; these are all pockets of greatness coming from a movie about horny sausages.
Other than the usual Seth Rogen pals like James Franco, Michael Cera, Danny McBride, Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill; there were also interesting voice actors, like Edward Norton, Selma Hayek, and Nick Kroll providing one of the best voices for the character of a Douche.
There were tons of laughs from the ingenious ways of creating jokes out of the situations food products find themselves in. It was also refreshing to see a movie made from this point of view. It's definitely one of the year's highlights for animation.
