[Review] Million Dollar Arm (6/10)

Here's a fine, fine example about getting creative when your career depended on it. Based on true events, I'm surprised it isn't more well known or if anyone else successfully replicated the concept.

It's a nice family movie that talked a little about family, values and respect. It has that signature Disney flavour for a drama and a happy ending.

Jon Hamm seemed like a good fit at first and he played the part well. But I could not be certain if he did not have enough star wattage to carry the movie or if director Craig Gillespie did not direct him enough.

By the end of the second act the script from Tom McCarthy fell into a typical fanfare for a movie such as this. Even the character of Lake Bell felt very unrealistic from the start as the neighbour-slash-tenant.

Plus the whole reality TV-like search for the next "million dollar arm" should have been more fun than what was presented to us. A lot of the facts have already been changed by McCarthy so why not give the audience more fun?

At the end of it all, it was entertaining and it was interesting to see how they succeeded, whether or not it was still based on the the true story by then.
