[Editorial] Matt Reeves Drops Directing Duties For DC's The Batman
How is it that Warner Bros. Pictures still has not learnt any lesson?
My previous editorial report was that Matt Reeves would be the ideal candidate, though I had harboured some doubts whether or not Reeves would stick around with all the track record on the DC properties. But I was really expecting Reeves to be the one since Variety reported it and that means WB has made this announcement, officially or not.
And just a couple of days ago The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that negotiations between Reeves and the executives over at WB have broken down.
How many times does WB want to embarrass themselves? Seriously. How difficult is it to conclude negotiations with the director, to make sure he will be able to see the vision through and is on the same page as the studio, before making any kind of announcement?
Or is WB playing some kind of a marketing ploy just to get some advertising and to be on the news, to even play up the drama surrounding The Batman so that when it gets released, more tickets will be sold? If that's the case, they are even bigger idiots than I can imagine.
At this point who else would dare to touch this project - no successful director would if WB is going to have him or her by the reins.
And if all that's left are up and coming directors that WB can boss around and intimidate (even someone like David Ayer was not safe), then it's going to end up with horrible editing resulting in an incoherent film once again just like Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Suicide Squad.
What is WB up to? What kind of game are they playing with their fans? Or is it all purely for the money and nothing else?
