Long-Time X-Men Producer Simon Kinberg To Direct Next X-Men Sequel
At this moment it is still rumoured to be titled X-Men: Supernova and to be centred around the Dark Phoenix saga, 20th Century Fox is looking to what many would consider as the shepherd of the current X-Universe, Simon Kinberg, to direct.
Kinberg started as a writer on X-Men: The Last Stand, arguably the worst X-movie. He then started working with Bryan Singer and produced X-Men: First Class, and then also on writing duties for X-Men: Days Of Future Past - I would argue as the best X-movie to date - as well as X-Men: Apocalypse.
Kinberg is also playing a very active role as a producer in this new era of Star Wars movies as well as the very successful TV show "Star Wars Rebels", among many other projects.
If the negotiations are to be successful, Kinberg will take on the next X-project as his first directorial debut.
Now I'm completely torn about this. On one hand, no one knows the X-universe like Kinberg, since he has been there from the start. But on the other, that does not mean he knows how to direct a big budget movie.
I do not know if Kinberg has done any type of directing duties before, but we definitely want to avoid another case of Fantastic Four - where Fox strong-armed their director and took over creative controls.
Though Fox's track record is not like Warner Bros. Pictures with their DC properties, but will Kinberg be strong enough to have his way?
