[Review] The Girl On The Train (5.5/10)

If you look at the talent behind this movie, it would not be wrong to guess that this would be an instant hit. That's what I thought also after watching the trailers.

Directed by Tate Taylor, whose previous two movies, The Help and Get On Up, were awards nominated movies. The Girl On The Train looks set to carry on that trend, but it did not.

Ten minutes in and I was already wondering where this movie was going to go. The pacing was all wrong and felt like nothing was going on even with each reveal of the story and plot. Taylor's approach to this movie was a big mistake because the pay off in the end did not justify the slow burn that took hold of most of the movie.

You could not even say the story plateaued because to have a plateau would mean there was an incline somewhere in the beginning. This was a gentle slope at best, while also getting the mood and atmosphere right.

And it was such a waste of all these talents: Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, Lisa Kudrow and Justin Theroux. And they all did their part - there was nothing wrong with any of the performances.

This movie had all the potential, that's why the disappointment was even greater.
