[Review] John Wick: Chapter 2 (8.5/10)

This is one of those rare cases where the sequel is better than the original.

But had John Wick not set up the universe so eloquently, Chapter 2 would not have been this brilliant too.

This sequel built on what the original gave us, and it built on it with so much more. The lore, the mythology, the "Continental Hotel"; everything was added on so well that I had nothing to complain about there.

The action sequences were even better this time, or at least from what I remembered. And Keanu Reeves' portrayal was even more John Wick this time.

So director Chad Stahelski this time directed the movie on his own and he did not miss a beat. In fact, I liked it even more. From the set up, to the non-stop action, to taking a breather before continuing with another non-stop action sequence; this was popcorn fun at its best.

The supporting cast this time were better too, with Ian McShane and Lance Reddick as returners. This was also the first time since The Matrix that Reeves shared the same screen with Laurence Fishburne; however, no sparks flew like the last time.

Riccardo Scamarcio played a delicious and detestable villain that made the audience support John Wick even more. But Ruby Rose and Common left me wanting more. Not so much from Rose as she already looks the part. The only thing was her sudden outburst towards the end that confused me because her character was supposed to be a mute.

Common, however, made me wish they had cast someone that looked more menacing and fiercer.

But bottom line was that Chapter 2 delivered as it promised, and then some. And that was all that mattered.
