According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Brolin has nabbed the role after the studio looked at bigger names like Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe, as well as Kyle Chandler, Michael Shannon and David Harbour.
But what is even more surprising is that Brolin is already playing a big character (both figuratively and physically) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thanos - the main villain in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movie.
I can only surmise that Thanos will may not survive past Infinity War because Cable is going to lead the next X-Men ensemble movie: X-Force.
But then again, Brolin's face will be heavily in make-up as Thanos so maybe Marvel does not mind sharing him with Fox in the same period of time.
Even though Brolin is a great choice for Cable, I would have liked to see the likes of Shannon, Chandler or Harbour take the role. Give someone else a chance at a career-making role.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 is still without a new release date; but I have a feeling we are going to find out soon enough.
