[Review] It Follows (6.5/10)

It Follows was a neat little horror flick that was intriguing but never quite satisfy in the end.

David Robert Mitchell crafted this very well and captured the essence of what suspense should be. Meaning, to show the audience what the horrifying subject was in broad daylight but still can be gripping and thrilling. And not just the useless jump scares.

But his writing, though, left me wanting more because by the end of any horror movie I want at least some questions answered. Instead, many small details were left unanswered and that usually frustrates me.

Mitchell was like the master at being vague. Sometimes we see the "monster" naked, sometimes not. Why? Sometimes the "monster" took on the form of a friend. Why not all the time? The concept for the "monster" was that it could only walk, what if the targeted victim were to cross an ocean on a plane? What then?

And then when we got to the ending in the swimming pool, what happened? We've seen the "monster" survive bullets from a gun, so why was it different in the end? And whatever happened to the scratch on the boy's body? Why was this left out after showing the audience it was there?

But perhaps it was Mitchell's direction that really captured the hearts of horror fans, and I can see why. I hope his next movie would be tighter in pacing and in writing.
