After hearing many director names' attached to the sequel of Warner Bros. Pictures and DC's Suicide Squad, including and not limited to big names like Mel Gibson; Deadline has reported that there is finally a front-runner.
Last year's small-budget shark thriller, The Shallows, starring Blake Lively did successfully at the box office, and it was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. He is now DC's pick to direct the much-troubled Suicide Squad; which the first movie, although did well, but was damned by movie critics.
Collet-Serra does not come with a very specific style or flair but his past movies like The Shallows are story-specific amidst the action-packed property. Plus he knows how to craft suspense and thriller.
However, he would not have been my first choice for the movie even though he seems like he is capable in following the style of David Ayer. And even though Gibson is not an obvious fit, I would have loved to see his take on a comic book movie.
