Colin Trevorrow Out Of Star Wars Episode IX

This is probably the biggest news of the week. Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have parted ways with Colin Trevorrow who was supposed to direct Star Wars Episode IX.

Trevorrow have been seen working actively with the producers of Star Wars, as well as director Rian Johnson of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He has made his rounds in conventions and also part of the development team inside Star Wars. But today, the studios have put out a statement claiming "we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best..."

Now speculations are rife with Deadline claiming that the frontrunner to take on the director's role is none other than Episode VIII director, Johnson; who, at the time of hire, was actually to do these two films anyway.

There has been rumours going on as far back as when Trevorrow's latest film The Book Of Henry tanked at the box office, that Lucasfilm would give him the boot. I personally do not give any weight to that, just like how I didn't give weight to the rumour that Ben Affleck lost the directing gig for The Batman because his last movie Live By Night underperformed at the box office as well.

What the actual reason for the split with Trevorrow may never be uncovered, but there is another way to spin this if Johnson does in fact come back for seconds. He is the only director after J.J. Abrams and The Force Awakens that has no negative news coming out from production. The Last Jedi just quietly chugged along and now we are 100 days away from the release date.

Johnson's sequel is set to be even better than The Force Awakens, and it will be seen as a wise move to have him back to close out this trilogy.
